Conférence "René Buthaud (1886-1986). Retour sur l’œuvre d’un céramiste virtuose"

Born in 1886, René Buthaud is one of the major French ceramists of the 20th century. His vases, with their simple shapes and stylized decorations, were a great success in the Parisian art world from the outset. Curious and sensitive, René Buthaud was as interested in African art as he was in Southwestern tin-ware or 16th-century Mannerist paintings. Drawing on the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design in Bordeaux, as well as pieces held in private collections and archives, this lecture will present the career of this outstanding ceramist, whose work had a profound impact on the interwar art scene and the Art Deco movement.
