The two paths

Two paths leading to Santiago de Compostela pass through our beautiful Chalosse and Tursan country:

The Limousine route: This path crosses the Landes along a trail of 90 km through Mont-de-Marsan.

After 15.5 km from Mont-de-Marsan, passing by the village of Benquet, a last climb leads you to the town of Saint-Sever where the town centre with its splendid abbey is a well-deserved reward! You can stop at the pilgrim's hostel for one night.

The road continues through the villages of Audignon and Horsarrieu before reaching the town of Hagetmau, 13 km from Saint-Sever. Here is a cottage which welcomes you to stop over. The next step to Sault de Navailles takes you along 14 km through Labastide-Chalosse, Argelos and Beyries.

The Puy route: after having crossed the volcanoes of Velay, Quercy and Gers, this path crosses the Tursan along a 30 km stretch from Aire sur l'Adour to Arzacq Arraziguet. Between the Landes plain and the Pyrenees, the villages of Miramont-Sensacq and Pimbo invite you to stop for a meal or a good night's sleep in one of the many gîtes.

The pilgrimage is an intense personal quest, but also an opportunity to discover our towns and villages, their history and tradition!

The Abbey Church of Saint-Sever, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the pilgrimage way to Santiago de Compostela. The Romanesque crypt of St-Girons, with its 14 capitals, is listed as a Historical Monument and the beautiful collegiate church of Pimbo is a must-see for pilgrims! The chapel of Sensacq, a gem of Romanesque art, alone among the fields, invites you for a short break.

And you can't go through Landes Chalosse without tasting some of our local specialities such as tourtière, pastis, foie gras and Tursan wines - in moderation, of course!

Accommodation

The pilgrims' hostel in Saint-Sever

Saint-Sever is to be found in rue Antonin Cloche, in a wing of the Jacobin convent. It is accessible, without reservation in advance, at the tourist office of Saint-Sever (Place du Tour du Sol) after 2 pm. Outside the opening hours of the tourist office, a phone number to contact the person on duty will be posted on the door. The price is 10 € per person per night (only one night possible) upon upon presentation of the crédencial. The accommodation has 12 beds in 2 rooms, an equipped kitchen and a washing machine.

The pilgrims' hostel in Hagetmau is located at 434, rue Saint Girons, close to the town centre. It is accessible without reservation at the swimming pool reception area, where you'll be given the access code upon presentation of your crédencial. The refuge is comfortable, and up to seven pilgrims can be welcomed. Everything has been thought of for you - washing machine, dryer, kitchen, dining room - enjoy a well deserved rest! Open from mid-March to the end of October. The price is € 5.50 per person per night.

Une large offre d’hébergements est proposée à Miramont Sensacq  dont une halte jacquaire où vous serez accueillis par des hospitaliers. Le gîte de 22 places est ouvert toute l’année sur réservation (05 58 79 91 23), le tarif est de 12 € par personne et par nuit.

A wide range of accommodation is offered in Miramont Sensacq including a hostel where you will be welcomed by the hospitaler order. The cottage, with 22 beds, is open all year round, and can be booked on +33 (0)5 58 79 91 23). The price is 12 € per person per night.

Good advice for pilgrims

Prepare your stay well in advance with maps and guides, or with help from pilgrims' associations. Plan your route, find out which hostels are open and, especially, practice walking - the pilgrimage is physically demanding!

If you do not have the crédencial we advise you to buy it before arriving in Landes-Chalosse because the next towns along the way (Orthez and St-Jean Pied de Port) where you will be able to obtain on are still some way off.

On Sunday afternoons and Mondays the shops are closed. You should do some shopping before you arrive. In the villages there is sometimes no shop at all - be prepared for this!
